1- National Databases and Cooperation with International Information Systems The documentation centre is compiling national databases on scientific publications and information produced within its capacity as a focal point in Lebanon of International information systems. The documentation centre acts as a focal point to: -Agris:the international information system of the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations in the fields of agriculture nutrition and related fields; -Caris: the international information system of FAO on on-going research projects in agriculture and nutrition and related fields. -Inis: the international information system of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on nuclear energy and its safety applications, and on the environmental aspects and of non-nuclear energy. 2- National Databases National and local databases built in the documentation centre are: AGRIN Agrin is a national bibliographic database in agriculture and nutrition and related fields (animal Science, forestry, aquaculture, fisheries, natural resources, environment, soils, irrigation, climatology, pollution, technology after crops...) as part of national participation to the international information system AGRIS of FAO Agrin is incorporated with inputs of all member countries of United Nations in the international database AGRIS which is searchable on-line and on CD_ROM. CARIN is a national factual database on on-going national research projects in agriculture and nutrition and related fields (environment, irrigation, fisheries, technology, after crops...). Carin data is incorporated with inputs of developing countries that are members of United Nations in the international database CARIS of FAO. Carin and Caris are searchable on CD_ROM in the Documentation Centre and on FAO web site on internet. A directory is produced as an output of Carin. ABHASS Abhass is a database on research projects sponsored by CNRS reporting basic information on research projects in medicine, agriculture, environment, engineering and technology, and basic sciences. LEBNIS Lebnis is a national bibliographic database in the field of nuclear energy and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology and related sciences. It also covers economic and environmental aspects of non nuclear energy sources. Lebnis is incorporated in the international database INIS produced by IAEA in collaboration with INIS national centres of member countries of United Nations and is searchable on INIS CD_ROM and on-line in the Documentation Centre. 3. List of publications The following is a list of publications available from the CNRS Directory of Research Projects for 1998. Documentation services The following databases are available from the Centre: On-line databases INIS On-Line The database is searchable only at the Documentation Centre. INIS is an international database on publications of all countries membres of the United Nations in the field of nuclear energy and its safety applications, and environmental aspects of non-nuclear energy. DATABASES On-Line on QUESTEL: Databases on line on the international server QUESTEL are searchable in the Centre through its connection to the server refer of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). CD_ROM Databases In addition to on-line search services, the Centre offers search on international databases available on CD_ROM. Some of these services are provided by the Centre in its capacity as national focal point to UN information systems: Agris CD-ROM InisCD-ROM Food and Human Nutrition in Agris Agris Fisheries-Peches-Pesca Agris Forestry-Forestrie-forestal Caris Unesco databases Faostat database Ulrich' Cd-Rom Current contents : Life sciences; Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences; Engineering, Computing & Technology; Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences 5. Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) SDI is a search service made on the updated part of a database according to a subject of a researcher (profile) each time the updated versions are received in the Centre. SDI services are implemented on Agris and Inis databases . 6. Documentation Delivery Services Reproductions of articles and documents requested by researchers upon searches on databases are secured through this system. The Centre has developed a major document delivery service from overseas libraries (Inist of frensh CNRS, British Library etc...) and documentation centres. A significant document delivery service is provided free of charge to local end users. A photocopying service is also available to the CNRS staff.
